This already is this week-end that the first ITU world cup of the season will start. If the inferior circuit to the World Series rarely attracts the stars, the Cape Town step was supposed to be Vincent Luis’ come back on the blue carpet since his last race at the Rio Olympic Games.
His interest for this race has surprised le field since in his post-Olympic statement, he mentioned his intention to focus on athletics with the crazy project to qualify for Tokyo Olympic Gams on 5 000 and 10 000 meters.
More recently, the 3rd world ranked in 2015 moderated his speech, I continue triathlon training because this is what makes me live, this is where I have partners. In athletics, I’m nobody, it’s complicated. For me, the sport I really love is triathlon.
In this shared love, we learned that Vincent finally canceled his participation to triathlon world cup in Cape Town. Besides, if his retirement wasn’t effective before last Monday, he will be automatically suspended for the next 30 days.
This means he won’t be allowed to race in the first World Series in Abu Dhabi as well. He raced last Sunday for the ½ finals of French Championships in cross country in Châteauvillain. He finished with a 4th place.
In a public statement, he admits that he is annoyed by his ankle and prefer to withdraw and stay prudent with this minor injury. He is still hoping to race Abu Dhabi in 22 days.
